Naomi Campbell Banned from BA after Abusing Staff at Heathrow
23rd April 2008
Temperamental supermodel Naomi Campbell, 38, has been banned for life from flying with British Airways after her recent arrest in Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. The charge occurred after the model rowed with BA staff over a missing bag in the chaotic new terminal.
The police officer had boarded Ms Campbell’s flight - a British Airways plane to Los Angeles – in order to calm the situation between the model and cabin crew. While on the plane, it has been alleged that the model insulted British Airways staff, as well as hurling racial insults and spitting at a female police officer. These rumours have not yet been confirmed, although Ms Campbell’s spokesperson said, “This doesn’t sound like anything she would say.”
Ms Campbell was handcuffed and arrested after being forcibly removed from the flight by police officers. However, after questioning by police, she was released on bail and without charge.
British Airways later decided to ban the star from their flights as a result of her abusive behaviour towards their cabin crew. A BA spokesperson said: “All incidents of abusive or disruptive behaviour towards passengers or staff are taken extremely seriously and will not be tolerated.”
After hearing news of the model’s BA ban, Ms Campbell's spokesperson said that she hoped the issue could be resolved. The spokesperson said: “Naomi has been flying with BA for nearly 30 years and has been a good customer. She hopes this can be resolved amicably.”
Naomi Campbell is renowned for her violent temper and has been arrested numerous times over the last decade for abusive behaviour. Just last year, Ms Campbell spent five days cleaning in New York as part of a community service sentence, which was imposed after the model was found guilty of throwing a Blackberry mobile phone at her housekeeper, Ana Scolavino. In the past, she has also been forced to attend anger management classes due to her temper. However, if her behaviour at Heathrow is anything to go by, it doesn’t look like they’ve worked.
