Homes regeneration scheme starts
25th May 2009
Work has started on a £50m regeneration scheme to replace unfit homes in an area of Staines in Surrey.
Bulldozers have begun demolishing dwellings in Victory Close in Stanwell to make way for 52 new private and shared-ownership properties.
The work is the first phase of a project to replace 120 houses that do not meet the government's Decent Homes Standard with 360 flats and houses.
The regeneration project is expected to be completed in 2012.

David Price, A2Dominion regeneration director, said: "We are excited that the demolition work on the Stanwell New Start scheme is now beginning, marking an important stage in the regeneration process.
"Residents have been involved from the very start, and this stage is the culmination of all of the work carried out by our resident focus groups and involvement."
The £50m Stanwell New Start regeneration involves housing in Explorer Avenue, Mulberry Avenue, Holywell Way, Holywell Close, Longford Way, Longford Avenue, Laburnum Way and Long Lane.
The new development, which is being carried out by A2Dominion in partnership with Spelthorne Borough Council, will also include new community facilities such as a health centre, cafe and library.
